Contemplating…

At home in Imphal….and one of the things that i thought and planned was to resolve some outstanding personal issues. But conditions are such that I’m neither able to do anything, nor discuss it with anyone….feel suffocating and tied up…but  I still haven’t given up hope…and wish that things may take a turn for the better..sooner rather than later…

Lost innocence…?

fr

Life is indeed strange and wonderful..in both ways..The cut-throat competition, the fast paced way in which the world is racing like a mad dog race..with deadlines to meet, people to be pleased, kids to be raised, family to be looked after, career to be nurtured..one has very little, in fact no time for emotions. Things can, however, turn a new leaf and a new chapter in one’s life… a new assignment, a surprise gift, a long break…or perhaps a long lost friend…

It was a pleasant surprise when I came across a long lost friend, after a long period of some 20-22 years…We were childhood friends and View full article »

For the love of a child…

child

Most of my friends have by now got married, started a family and doing relatively well. A few are still unmarried…initially out of choice due to pursuits of studies, career etc, but later on simply because it has become harder to find a suitable partner!! However, the sad and worrying part is that an increasing number of young couple are having difficulties bearing a child. Even among my close friends, there are at least three of them who are facing these problems. Initially as it is not a nice thing to be discussed and also because of work and other related commitments, the issue was not discussed..but after some of them have tried their best, consulted doctors and experts, taken medicines/treatments and have not been successful..it has come out of the closet now and it is really sad to see the pain and desperation in their eyes…

One of them had been undergoing several treatments, most of them exorbitantly expensive ones, for a long time now, mostly at facilities in the northeast-both in our native Manipur as well as in other areas like Guwahati, Shillong etc. However, without any success. On the other hand, another friend of mine is a brilliant doctor working in doctor and he did his post graduation in the All India Institute of Health and Family Welfare, the premier institute relating to View full article »

Birthday

Its my birthday today and i’m stuck at Ferozepur, not able to return to Chandigarh because of some pending official engagements. Perhaps the first time in a long long time that I’ve not been able to spend time with family on such an occasion.

Not that I celebrate my birthdays…have always been the quiet type, right from childhood days. Except for wishes and congratulatory cards from some very select close friends, have never celebrated it in a big way. But at the same time, have always been with family…..not to be this time around…

Going the retail way

The other day I rang up a friend in Delhi to catch up on what’s happening at his end. He said he was at a retail shop to pick up some vegetables. Just by coincidence I was also at Reliance Fresh and as usual as my wife does the shopping, I take the free time (before pulling out the wallet) to phone up friends. Come to think of it, the entry of big business houses in vegetable retail has turned out to be a great boon for shoppers like us. As my work entails lots of travelling and since there is hardly any time during office hours of the week to go out and take care of the rations, we normally do bulk purchases on week-ends.

In Chandigarh, the first retail to cater to vegetables exclusively was Choupal from the ITC stable. Subhiksha Centres were also there for sometime now but they don’t cater specifically to grocery items. Most of the time we go to View full article »

Guests galore

August has been quite a hectic month, both at home and at work. On the work front, saying it has been a hectic schedule would be an understatement as it has always been like this – tight, hectic and almost chaotic. I used to have calmer weekends, wherein I stole a few moments of solitude and privacy with my family. However a deluge of visitors has kept me occupied and engrossed for a good part of the month.

First it was the relatives from her side. Her maternal uncle and aunt came calling. Its been almost 2 years since the last time they visited us. In fact they had gone to Coorg to drop their second daughter who is doing a BDS course and had stopped by in Delhi where their elder daughter is pursuing her Masters degree. In fact the kid also came along. My son Apul had a great time with them as very few of our relatives visit us here in Chandigarh

Then it was the turn of my good old friend K. A lawyer by profession and based in Delhi, K is an enthusiastic traveller, whenever time permits. We had also planned earlier, but somehow the earlier planned visits couldn’t materialise for some reason or the other. Besides, we also wanted a sort of get-together for our families as even though K and I often meet or talk on the phone, our families have hardly met. When K finally did arrived, it turned out to be a little chaotic as well. First, he had a tight schedule himself-going further to Kasauli and Shimla. Secondly, his family had not been to Chandigarh before and the View full article »
